As a small company I apparently don’t carve out enough time to update my website with any regularity but I wanted to check in and say that the last few years and now 2026 thus far have been a really great combination of continuing work for long-time clients and developing relationships with some great new cooperatives.

I continue to work side by side with Hancock Wood Electric Cooperative and Illinois Electric Cooperative with their Futura systems and help Inland Power and Light with NISC mapping. In addition I am now helping La Plata Electric Association in Durango and Big Bend Electric Cooperative in Washington with their NISC needs.

I am assisted by two amazing GIS Techs who help me keep the work flowing and the piles low.

I love providing consistent results and making clients’ lives easier (more so than keeping a website updated) and am filled with gratitude for the opportunities I’ve been given to prove my worth. – Alisa

Fall 2022

Throughout the pandemic I found myself in the unique position of being already set in the remote work universe while everyone around me in many professions discovered the flexibility, possibility and challenges of working remotely. I am grateful to my clients during the sometimes chaotic past couple of years for keeping me busy and grounded as the world kept changing around us.

In new client news, in March 2021 I signed on with Sangre de Cristo Electric Association (Buena Vista, CO) to assist in the database and connectivity clean-up for NISC Operation Analytics. Working closely with both NISC and SDCEA we fine-tuned the data model to eliminate DEW errors. Going forward I will also be helping SDCEA to clean up their joint use database and model net meters.

My work continues with Hancock Wood Electric Cooperative in Findlay, OH, Illinois Electric Cooperative in Winchester, IL and Three Lakes Water and Sanitation District in Grand Lake, CO; I have also continued supporting Exponential Engineering Company on multiple GIS-intensive projects.

Welcoming New Clients in 2019

Blue Door GIS continues to grow and this year has welcomed two new clients into our family.

Hancock Wood Electric Cooperative in Findlay, Ohio has retained our services to help maintain their Futura GIS database, process work orders and handle any miscellaneous mapping needs that might arise.

The Utility District of Western Indiana has also contracted with Blue Door GIS to help them maintain their Futura GIS and assist with special cooperative mapping projects.

Additionally, The Victory Electric Cooperative in Dodge City, Kansas has renewed their relationship with us for a short-term effort to clear out their NISC GIS work order backlog.

Work continues with Illinois Electric Cooperative, another Futura client and long-standing relationship, Three Lakes Water and Sanitation District for whom we handle quarterly updates and the Telluride Mountain Club, maintaining and improving their trails database.

Blue Door GIS was contacted by The Victory Electric Cooperative in Dodge City, KS to help with a backlog of work orders resulting from an ice storm in 2017. It has been a successful collaboration using their NISC platform and a spotless GIS database of facilities while interacting with a dynamic and forward-thinking engineering staff and management.

GIS Contracting to Empire Electric Association, Inc. in Cortez, Colorado

From 2012 to 2018 Blue Door GIS provided GIS services to Empire Electric Association, a rural electric cooperative in Cortez, Colorado.  Alisa served as Empire Electric’s GIS Analyst from 2007 to 2012 as an employee of the cooperative until a relocation resulted in the contracting relationship. We provided contracting services for their continuing GIS needs and helped with database maintenance and upkeep.  Empire Electric was an ATS CIS/GIS/OMS client and used Partner software for staking, ArcGIS Online and Collector for field data collection and viewing with enterprise ESRI ArcMap as its mapping backbone.

Trail Maps for RAT (Ridgway Area Trails)

Blue Door GIS has been helping RAT design and publish trail maps for the new single track trail system in the area around Ridgway, CO since 2014.  With two separate trail systems in Weaver Park north of town and a constantly expanding network of trails on BLM land just off of Highway 550 at County Road 10, RAT volunteers are creating a diverse and fun network that will total over 25 miles of single track fun.  Here is the first draft of the new trail network northeast of Ridgway.  The trail network is being consistently added to, so please check back for revisions. The georeferenced PDF maps can be downloaded onto your smartphone and used with the free app PDF Maps.

Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership

In 2013 Blue Door GIS helped the Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership to compile data and create a geodatabase for the watershed area. UWP was created in 2007 to help protect the economic, natural, and scenic values of the Upper Uncompahgre River Watershed.  The Partnership works to inform and engage all stakeholders and solicits input from diverse interests to ensure collaborative restoration efforts in the watershed.

The Uncompahgre River drains 1,115 square miles of the Gunnison Basin in southwestern Colorado.  This drainage area includes parts of Delta, Montrose, Ouray, Gunnison, Hinsdale, San Juan and San Miguel Counties in southwest Colorado.  The elevation ranges from 14,158 feet at the peak of Mt. Sneffels to 4,915 feet at the mouth in Delta.  The Uncompahgre River originates in Lake Como at 12,215 feet in the Uncompahgre National Forest.  It flows approximately 75 miles northwest past the City of Ouray, Town of Ridgway, City of Montrose, and Town of Olathe and joins the Gunnison River at Confluence Park in the City of Delta.

The database that was created for the Uncompahgre watershed area was designed to assist future decision-making and prioritization processes within the Partnership as well as handle analysis and mapping requests.

GIS Analysis for BIO-Logic

Blue Door GIS has worked to assist BIO-Logic, a Natural Resource Consultant on multiple projects including GIS analysis for a project in Colorado and Utah and a viewshed analysis project on the Unaweep plateau.  With a combined 8 years of experience working with NRCE (Natural Resources Consulting Engineers),  the US National Forest and the National Park Service doing extensive spatial analysis on a wide variety of projects, Blue Door GIS can provide reliable GIS analysis for large and small natural resource projects.
